Walk-in tub conversion
Rogue Valley
Serving Grants Pass & Southern Oregon, Klamath Falls to Gold Beach to Roseburg
A walk-in tub is a deep bath with a door, a built-in seat and a low step-in. Most walk-in tub conversions are finished in a single day. A full remodel takes longer, and you’ll know the schedule before work starts.
01 / The tub
A walk-in tub is a bathtub with a door in its side. You step in over a low threshold, close the door, sit on the built-in seat, and the tub fills around you. Most models add a handheld shower and a few comfort features.
People tend to choose one when they still want a bath but stepping over a standard tub wall has become a chore, or when sitting to bathe is simply more comfortable. It is a different product from a walk-in shower, so it helps to decide which of the two suits the way you bathe.
Installation follows a set order. The old tub comes out, the plumbing is adjusted for the new fixtures and drain, and the walls around it are finished or replaced. Then the new tub is set, connected and sealed. In most cases it fits where the old tub was. The tub arrives as one unit, so the space and the way into the bathroom get measured at the estimate.
One trade-off to know about: a walk-in tub fills and drains while you are seated inside, and the door stays closed until the water has gone. That is how the design works, and it is worth weighing against a walk-in shower.
02 / Timing
Most walk-in tub conversions are finished in a single day, because the new tub goes where the old one was and the rest of the bathroom is left as it is. A full remodel takes longer, and changes to the plumbing or the walls around the tub can add time here too. Your estimate includes a schedule, so you know how long the bathroom will be out of service before work begins.

Common questions
Most walk-in tub conversions are finished in a single day. A full remodel takes longer, and plumbing or wall changes around the tub can add time here too. You'll get a schedule with your estimate, so you know before work starts how long the bathroom will be out of service.
Often it does, because walk-in tubs come in sizes close to a standard tub. Measurements decide it: the space, the door swing and the way into the bathroom. We take them at the estimate and tell you whether a model fits before you commit to anything.
Longer than a shower, and worth knowing before you choose. You sit in the tub as it fills, and the door stays closed until it has drained. Fill and drain times vary by model and by your home's water supply, so ask about the model you're considering.
Walk-in tub doors close against a gasket and a latch that pulls the door tight, and the design is what holds the water in. Door styles differ between models, which is one reason the model matters. We'll go through the one you're considering at the estimate.
Many models include a handheld shower, and the walls around the tub can be finished like a shower surround. A walk-in tub is still a tub, so if you want to stand and shower, a tub-to-shower conversion may suit you better. We can go through both options at the estimate.
People who want to keep taking baths but find stepping over a tub wall awkward, or who prefer to sit while they bathe. If you mostly shower, a walk-in shower may fit better. Tell us how you use the bathroom and we'll point you to whichever suits.
